0
The Ala Ponzone Civic Museum, located in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Affaitati, has a collection of over two thousand pieces of art and sculpture from the medieval period to the twentieth century. The famous Sala del Platina contains a masterpiece of Renaissance woodwork, the precious inlaid wardrobe made for Cremona Cathedral between 1477 and 1480 by Mantuan artist Giovanni Maria da Piadena, known as Platina. There is also considerable space for sixteenth-century painting, in particular with the famous painting by Giuseppe Arcimboldi, "L'ortolano" and "San Francesco in meditazione" by Caravaggio. Finally, in the section "The Rooms for Music" an important collection of historical stringed instruments is on display.
