Alley Lungarini – The Pezzinga Leap

0
Have you ever heard of the famous 'Salto di Pezzinga'? It is located in the alley Lungarini, right in the historical centre of Palermo. Tradition says that, in the 15th century, Don Pietro Pezzinga was a rich and handsome knight, much loved by women. One day, Camilla Vassallo and Gravina, baroness of Ganzaria, the wife of Don Sancho Gravina, fell in love with him, with whom the young man had an affair. But one day her husband returned to the city earlier than expected, while they were together, so Don Pietro Pezzinga advised the woman to shout "Stop thief!" to save her honour, and she fled, making a legendary leap from the parapet of the loggia to the roof of the building opposite, disappearing across the rooftops of the houses. This feat gave rise to the legend of the 'Pezzinga Leap'.
