0
The Genoa Aquarium was inaugurated in 1992 on the occasion of the Colombiadi, the Expo celebrating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. Designed by Renzo Piano, the Aquarium offers visitors a 2 hour and 30 minute tour that includes 39 tanks plus the 4 open-air tanks of the Cetacean Pavilion opened in the summer of 2013. The total surface area of the facility is 27,000 square metres. The tanks house about 15,000 animals of 400 different species, including fish, marine mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates in environments that reproduce the original ones of each species, with obvious educational purposes.
