A mother with her child suddenly disappeared while they were walking in Velabro area near the Church of St. Giorgio on January, 14th 1601. In that area the stagnant water of Tevere river could create chasms all of a sudden; at the same time, that area was the perfect place to hide treasures like gold and precious stones. During the centuries it was believed that a treasure had been hidden under Arco degli Argentari and even the Church took the legend such seriously that, in the Vatican archives, an authorization signed by the Pope was found giving the permission to make investigation.
