Arco di Porta Romana – A huge heart
The Roman Gate was erected in 1596, when Margaret of Austria arrived in the city to marry Philip III of Spain. If one could see the area from above, it would be possible to notice that the Spanish walls has the shape of a big heart with the ending part pointing towards the Roman Gate. According to the legend, Philip III explicitly asked for this hearted-shape as a wedding gift for his spouse.
