Aurelio Serra Geo-mining Museum – Minerals, rocks and fossils
The collection of the Geo-Minerary Museum "Aurelio Serra" includes minerals, rocks, fossils and scientific equipment. The collection, which is divided into mineralogical, geological, pedological and palaeontological sections, boasts about 1,000 pieces of mineralogical interest, 300 of geological interest and 200 of palaeontological interest, as well as various pedological profiles mainly concerning Sardinian soils. There are samples of effusive and intrusive rocks, fossils, soil monoliths, samples of marbles and rocks from the island's beaches and from foreign sites. The minerals exhibited are of considerable scientific importance, either because they are rare (e.g. covellite), or because they come from mines that have been closed for some time (such as silver and fluorite from the Sulcis and Sarrabus mines) or, finally, because of their particular crystallographic characteristics.
