Basilica of Maria Ausiliatrice – A dream of two pillars
Inside the basilica of Mary Help of Christians is kept a painting known as the "Dream of two pillars", depicting one of Don Bosco's many prophetic visions. In this dream, which the Saint received on March 30, 1862, a naval battle raged in which a single ship, assaulted on all sides by many enemy vessels, escaped to safety thanks to the prowess of its helmsman, finally finding shelter between two colossal pillars emerging from the sea. The dream was interpreted as an allegory of the Church itself, ever victorious thanks to the strength of its two pillars: the Virgin Mary and the sacrament of the Eucharist.
