In 258 A.D., Emperor Valeriano ordered the murder of all the bishops, deacons and presbyters. On August, 10th St. Lorenzo was martyred and nowadays, he is celebrated exactly on this day. The legend has it that he was tied on an iron grill over the fire but there is no evidence of this fact. As far as we know, Valeriano didn't order to torture the victims, so he was probably beheaded as the others. His corpse was buried in the cemetery in Verano area.
