Basilica of San Michele Maggiore – Animals and monstrous creatures

0
The façade of the Basilica of San Michele Maggiore has five small mullioned windows, three single-lancet windows and a cross between two oculi. This arrangement is a nineteenth-century reconstruction: up to that time, there was in fact a large circular window, certainly not original, which was eliminated to restore the façade to its original configuration. There are also horizontal bands sculpted in bas-relief, depicting intertwining human beings, animals and monstrous creatures.
