Basilica of San Pietro in Vaticano – “Veronica”
According to tradition, one of the most important relics for Christianity is conserved behind the statue of St. Veronica: the Holy Veil (called "Veronica's Veil"). This veil was used by a woman whose name is still unknown ("Veronica" might come from "vera icona", "true icon", that is the real image of Christ) who wiped the face of Christ on his Way to Calvary. The veil was miraculously impressed with the image of Christ. Inside the case preserving the veil there are 2 other precious relics: a fragment of the True Cross, found by St. Elena and brought to Rome from the Holy Land, and a splinter of the Lance of Longinus that pierced Jesus in his side.
