Basilica of Sant’Alessandro in Colonna – The Saint’s Column
The basilica of Sant'Alessandro in Colonna is a church that may have had an early Christian foundation but was rebuilt in the 15th century, and then renovated several times in the following centuries. Its original name is due to the column in front of the entrance, which was erected in 1618 with fragments from the Roman era to commemorate the site of the martyrdom of the saint, protector of Bergamo.
