The Basilica of Superga is a much-discussed structure, especially due to its rich hidden symbolism. Take for instance its location to the city's East, where the sun rises: a curious detail if you consider that the church was expressly built as a sepulchre, whereas in all traditions the East is associated with birth, not death. Another curiosity: if you look at a map, you'll find that together with the Rivoli, Venaria, Stupinigi and Moncalieri Savoy residences the basilica describes a five-pointed star, one of the most frequently-used alchemical symbols.
