At the bottom of the stairs, on the right-hand side of the courtyard of the Palazzo del Bo, you will come across the statue of Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia. This legendary woman, who began studying Greek and Latin at the age of seven, and later learned Spanish, French, Hebrew and Aramaic, was a true genius and an expert musician: she played the harpsichord and harp and even set her own verses to music. Asked to marry a German prince, Helen refused the marriage and became a Benedictine nun. Not content with her education, she embarked on university studies and at 9 a.m. on 25 June 1678, she graduated in Philosophy, making her the world's first female graduate.
