The well-known Bocca della Verità ("Mouth of Truth"), is a massive marble mask moved to its present location in 1632. It was possibly used as a manhole cover, reason why it seems to be a representation of one of the gods related to rivers. Today is very popular thanks to a medieval legend saying that the Mouth bite off the hand of liars.
