Bologni Square – The statue of Charles V
One of Palermo's many curiosities is the bronze statue of Emperor Charles V with his hand outstretched and five fingers spread, which stands in Piazza Bologni. According to popular belief, the statue was placed here to remind everyone of what happened to those five corrupt judges, who, guilty of falsifying a trial, were tied to the tails of horses and dragged down the nearby street that was later called Discesa dei Giudici.
