Café Pedrocchi – The mystery of the treasure
Antonio Pedrocchi dreamed of building the "most beautiful café in the world", so when he inherited the small "coffee shop" located in the heart of Padua's historic centre from his father Francesco, he decided to raze everything to the ground and have it rebuilt by the most famous architect of the time, the Venetian Giuseppe Jappelli. Some insinuated that, during the excavation of the underground ice house, the entrepreneur found an ancient treasure, so rich that he could redo the work with a higher budget. Actually, Pedrocchi did find something in the area below: some finds and the foundations of what was once the forum of the Roman "Patavium".
