Carignano theater – An intriguing secret passage
Opened in 1711, the Carignano theater never ceases to surprise and delight its fans. In 2000, for example, renovation works uncovered in its subterranean floors such curiosities as a beer brewery built on King Charles Albert's orders as a private locale in which to entertain his personal guests between play acts, and even part of Roman-age wall. The most fascinating discovery, however, was that of a tunnel connecting the theater to the nearby Egyptian Museum: a proper secret passage, of still-mysterious purpose.
