Cathedral of San Lorenzo – The Sacred Crater

0
The Cathedral of San Lorenzo houses the Sacro Catino, the plate on which, according to tradition, the severed head of St John the Baptist was placed. Legend has it that it was recovered by crusaders under the command of the Genoese Guglielmo Embriaco in the city of Cesarea Marittima, the centre of Christianity after Jerusalem, between the 11th and 12th centuries AD.
