Cathedral Rectory Museums – The Lapidary Museum

0
The Museums of the Novara Cathedral Rectory consist of two collections: the Lapidary Museum and the Museum of the Cathedral Treasury. The Lapidary Museum presents Celtic-Roman epigraphs, ares and cippus, dating from the 2nd century B.C. to the 3rd century. The epigraphs are exhibited according to theme: in the centre, groups of are and cippus consecrated to Roman gods; on the walls, dedicatory epigraphs, some of which are evidence of the forms of memory cult practised in the Novara area; in a secluded area, epigraphic documents attesting not only to the permanence of the Celts in the area, but also to the passage from ancient local cults to the progressive Romanisation of the indigenous peoples.
