Chiaravalle Abbey – The “ciribiciaccolini”

0
The Abbey of Chiaravalle is characterised by a striking tower 9m high. This tower is known as "Ciribiriciaccola" in Milanese dialect, and it is made by cotto tiles and Candoglia marble. However, it is unknown what "Ciribiriciaccolini" stands for. Some people say it could indicate the small columns of the tower, meticulously decorated; others say that "Ciribiriciaccolini" could be the monks of the Abbey. Another version say they are little storks, birds that used to nest in the tower, whose cry sounds like "ciri".
