On November, 15th 1897 the fire destroyed part of the chapel inside the Church of Sacro Cuore del Suffragio. When it was extinguished, the priests and believers noticed a mysterious man's face on a wall. The priests agreed that it was the manifestation of a soul passing through the purgatory. One of them, Father Victor Jouet, impressed and curious about the happening, started to search for other traces left by souls during their "journey" after death.
