San Dalmazzo holds the sinister record of having been Turin's first "church of the hanged". Here took residence the grim vultures of the Brotherhood of Mercy, specialized in accompanying convicts to the gallows. The remains of this grisly past still haunt the church's underground, where lie the bones of those led to their death by the Brotherhood's black-hooded procession.
