Church of San Giovanni in Oleo – The miracle of the evangelist
The church of San Giovanni in Oleo is a small church re-built in 1509 and restored by Borromini. Legend has it that, in 92 A.D., Emperor Domiziano forced San Giovanni Evangelista (at that time he was almost 80 years old) to enter a tub filled with hot oil. He went out of the tub miraculously with no marks on his body and, for this reason, he was saved by public acclaim.
