Church of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere – The corpse of St. Cecilia

0
The young noble Cecilia from Rome converted to Christianity and started to spread it; for these reasons, she was imprisoned and killed. First she was suffocated with the vapour of a "calidarium", then beheaded. Legend has it that Pope Urbano I buried her in San Callisto cemetery and he also built a church dedicated to her on the place of her martyrdom. In 820 A.D., Pope Pasquale I saw her in dream telling him the right place where she was buried in the cemetery. Pope Pasquale I ordered to search for that place and the corpse of the saint was found miraculously intact.
