Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini – The painting “Archangel Michael Slaying the Devil”
"Archangel Michael Slaying the Devil" is one of the most famous artworks of the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini and it also has a curious story. The author, Guido Reni, was harshly criticised by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Pamphili before the artist started to work on this painting; hurt and upset, he painted the devil with the features of the cardinal. He could not imagine that that cardinal would have become Pope Innocenzo X some years later.
