In front of the Church of Sant'Eusebio, the curious ritual of "the blessing of the animals" is held every 17th January. Today, only domestic animals receive the blessing but, in ancient times, the ritual regarded any kind of animal like cows and horses. Usually, peasants who came here with their animals to receive the blessing offered what they had to give in return, while noblemen offered some money. The ritual became so popular that "private blessing" ceremonies started to be held: for this reason, the bishop prohibited any form of blessing without authorization in 1831.
