Church of the Monastery of St Benedict – The stick fresco
On leaving the church of the Monastery of St Benedict, next to the holy water stoup decorated with festoons, one notices the 18th-century fresco of a gnarled stick leaning against the wall. The painting is a reminder that the traveller entering the church was on a continuous pilgrimage and was destined to find rest only in sacred buildings, places where the stick could, for a while, be rested.
