City Museum – Discovering the history of Livorno

0
The "Museo della Città" consists of the former Church of the Assumption of the Virgin and St Joseph and the ground floor of the Bottini dell'olio, which have been connected by a new building. The museum tour starts with archaeological finds, mainly from the Etruscan and Roman periods. The medieval section, where documents written on parchment and frescoes are displayed, precedes the section devoted to the foundation of the city at the end of the 16th century, and to its development between the 17th and 19th centuries, with a section devoted to the Risorgimento. There are also spaces dedicated to Livorno's main artists, cinema, cuisine and satire. The contemporary art section is located in the Church of the Assumption. Works by Piero Manzoni, Emilio Vedova, Pino Pascali, Tancredi Parmeggiani and others are on display.
