If in the area of the portal of the Colleoni Chapel, one can read a clear reference to death and the Last Judgement (recalled by the figure of the Eternal One looking out between the cherubim of the tympanum), the ascent of the observer's gaze and therefore of his mind, culminating in the Virgin placed in the lantern of the dome and passing over the figure of Saint Alexander, symbolises a path, that following which the spirit of Colleoni is freed from his human condition to arrive at redemption.
