Diocesan Museum – Territorial findings

0
Close to the Cathedral, an important museum traces the history of Ancona and its territory. The Diocesan Museum brings together material from the Cathedral of San Ciriaco and other churches in the city, presenting the history of Ancona through numerous exhibits, starting with early Christian ones. The precious objects preserved in the Museum can be interpreted on several levels: aesthetic-artistic, iconographic, technical, historical and devotional. Of particular interest is the 6th century sarcophagus of St. Dasio the Martyr, the reconstruction of the remains of the portal of the Romanesque Church of St. Peter, which has now disappeared due to damage during the Second World War, and the imposing Flemish tapestries depicting the main religious events (the Nativity, the Redemption, the Assumption).
