Faro della Vittoria – Senator Agnelli’s gift
In 1928, senator Giovanni Agnelli decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of WWI's end by presenting the city with a statue by Edoardo Rubino, portraying a winged Victory holding aloft a torch whose internal electric lighting turned it into a lighthouse by night. The monument, over 90 feet in height, bears an inscription by Gabriele D'Annunzio paying tribute not only to the «thousands and thousands of fighting brothers», but also to the statue's "sponsor", as it were, with the phrase: «Fiat lux, et facta est lux nova».
