Not a lot of people know that. The turtles in Fontana delle Tartarughe at Piazza Mattei were added to the original plan of the fountain, probably by Bernini, in 1658. During the years, they were stolen several times but every time they were found and put back. However, one of the turtles was stolen again in 1981 and it was decided to replace all the turtles with copies. The three original turtles are now preserved at Musei Capitolini.
