Fountain of Neptune – Where Savonarola burned
The Fountain of Neptune is the work of Bartolomeo Ammannati and several additional artists. The enormous statue, dubbed "il Biancone" ("Big White") by the locals, is a mediocre effort, while remarkable skill was certainly required by the for bronze likeness of satyrs and marine gods surrounding it. Lastly, in front of the fountain you'll be able to see a circular epigraph embedded in the pavement, marking the site of Girolamo Savonarola's torture and death.
