Giovanni Battista Belzoni – The way of the real Indiana Jones

Who was Giovanni Battista Belzoni? And why is there an engraved lion at number 70, where he was born? Belzoni was a multifaceted mind. Born in 1778, he worked at various jobs: as a singer, barber, circus performer and plumber, before becoming a world-famous Egyptologist. It was he who sent England the Colossus of Mnemon, which is still in the British Museum. Now, this name may not mean anything to you, but a town in Mississippi is named after him and it is said that George Lucas drew inspiration from Belzoni for the character of Indiana Jones.
