The Gremio degli Ortonali is a guild whose historical headquarters are located at number 6 Via al Duomo. This Gremio, which like all the others takes part in the traditional Descent of the Candlesticks on 14 August, carrying its characteristic candlestick in procession, recalls the origin of Sassari as an agricultural centre. The Ortolani have a green flag and venerate the Madonna di Valverde as their patron saint. Their current candlestick is a copy of the original (late 16th century) made in 1988.
