House of the War Victim – The mosaics in the meeting room
The Casa del Mutilato di Guerra is a building designed between 1938 and 1942. Its façade is decorated with two bas-reliefs by the sculptor Umberto Pinzauti, representing a winged Victory with the emblems of struggle and martyrdom and Glory with a trumpet and shield, on which the victories of the Piave and Vittorio Veneto are engraved. Inside, in the meeting hall, five mosaic panels were placed between 1940 and 1941, created to celebrate the fascist regime, whose great artistic value and importance in the history of modern mosaics is undeniable. The mosaics were created between 1940 and 1941 with the intention of establishing continuity between the Roman Empire and Fascism, to pay homage to the fighting spirit of the First World War and to glorify the wars fought by the Fascist regime.
