Kosmos Museum – The Natural History Museum

0
Kosmos, a word that means 'order' in Greek, takes its inspiration from the theme of travel, seen as a necessary undertaking to learn about nature. Housed in Palazzo Botta Adorno, the Kosmos Museum of Natural History now has around 500 exhibits alongside multimedia games, videos, interactive stations for children and much more. Started by Maria Theresa of Austria in the second half of the 18th century and directed for almost thirty years by the great scientist Lazzaro Spallanzani, the Museum boasts one of the oldest zoological collections in the world, with many exhibits of significant historical and scientific value, such as a Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus), a hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius), a short-finned mako shark (Isurus oxyrhynchus) and a bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).
