"L'odore della notte" is a 1998 film directed by Claudio Caligari, freely inspired by the novel "Le notti di arancia meccanica" by Dido Sacchettoni, one of the two Italian films presented out of competition at the 46th Venice International Film Festival. The film is set in Rome between 1979 and 1983, where a young bourgeois, Remo Guerra, is a policeman by day and the acknowledged leader of a gang that steals from wealthy Romans by night. His "proletarian soul", not satisfied with the authority conferred on him by his role as guardian of the law, rebels in the only way given to him by belonging to the world of the bourgeoisie, namely by stealing. In a vain attempt to change his ways, he and his accomplices open a bar in the suburbs. The bar shown in the film is actually located in Largo dei Savorgnan in Rome.
