Martyrs of 7 July 1960 Square – A tragic act of bloodshed

Piazza Martiri del 7 Luglio, formerly Piazza Cavour, was renamed after an ugly event that took place here on 7 July 1960: five workers from Reggio Emilia were killed by the police during a trade union demonstration. In memory of the victims, during the redevelopment of the area in 2010, plaques were placed at the points where the workers were killed and five plane trees were planted in their memory.
