The monument dedicated to Giuseppe Mazzini was, in some way, one of the protagonist in "I mostri" (1963) Dino Risi's masterpiece starring Alberto Sordi. Several important scenes of the movie were shot near this monument, e.g., when a car almost ran over a man who was "helped" by Giovan Maria Catalan Belmonte (Alberto Sordi) a nobleman with a white Rolls-Royce and a blond wig. The story ends where it started, near the monument dedicated to the Republican politician and patriot from Genova.
