Municipal Gallery of Modern Art – Over three thousand works
The Municipal Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome and its collections date back to 1883. It was first housed in the Palazzo Caffarelli on the Campidoglio. With the accumulation of new and important works, it was decided in 1925 to locate the Gallery in the former Carmelite convent in Via Crispi. The Gallery's collection includes over three thousand works: paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings, which constitute a precious heritage for the history of collecting and artistic culture in Rome at the end of the nineteenth century and throughout the first half of the twentieth century. The works come from successive and continuous purchases made by the Municipality of Rome at the most important national exhibitions and from private donations.
