Museum of Antiquities – History and archaeology

0
The Museum of Antiquities was created in 1940 and is now divided into three sectors: the historical collections, housed in the rooms created in the greenhouses of the Royal Palace, the archaeological materials found in Piedmont and the section dedicated to the archaeology of Turin, located in the new underground space next to the remains of the Roman Theatre. The historical collections represent the original nucleus of the Museum formed when Duke Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy started the collection of antiquities, increased by his successors and then donated to the University of Turin. The archaeological collections were housed in the Orangeries of the Royal Palace in 1989. A new, partially underground pavilion houses the archaeological finds from excavations carried out in the Piedmont region.
