The Museum of Torture is an exhibition of machinery, weapons, devices and instruments of torture, located in Palazzo Guinigi Magrini, in the historical centre of Lucca. The exhibition, entitled "Ancient European Instruments of Torture and Capital Punishment - Images and Historical Evidence from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Age", displays some of the most sophisticated and rare torture machines, dating back to the XVI and XVII centuries, and philological reconstructions of ancient and unobtainable originals from the XIX and XX centuries. The aim of the exhibition is to condemn torture, expressed in today's society through racism, violence and war. Lucca is one of the five museums into which the collection, consisting of more than a thousand pieces, has been divided. The great diversity of objects in the exhibition makes it possible to offer visitors differentiated thematic exhibitions.
