National Academy of San Luca – A collection of works of art
Palazzo Carpegna houses the collections of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, an association of artists in Rome, officially founded in 1593 with the aim of elevating the work of artists above mere craftsmanship. The Accademia's collections are not homogeneous in nature in terms of the type and origin of the works they contain. They are pieces of considerable historical and artistic interest, dating from the 15th to the 20th century. The largest group, however, dates mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries. The academic collections consist of more than a thousand paintings and three hundred sculptures, approximately five thousand five hundred drawings and a collection of prints and medals.
