Necropolis of Montalè – Six ancient hypogea
The hypogeic necropolis of Montalè is a pre-Nuragic archaeological site, discovered by chance at the beginning of the 1980s, and consists of six hypogea of the 'domus de janas' type dug out of a limestone outcrop. The immediate vicinity of a tufa quarry, at the edges of which there are few traces of other hypogea, leads us to hypothesise that the site was larger than it is today. Of the six domus present, one is almost destroyed, three were adapted as rustic houses in the historical period, after substantial modifications to the plan, and only the last two have preserved their original structure.
