Oratory of Santa Maria della Vita (Museum of Health and Care) – The transit of the Virgin

0
In the area where the Museum of Health and Care has been set up, there is the beautiful Oratory of the Battuti, which is accessed by crossing the rooms that were once the rooms of the Hospital of Life. Inside, on the opposite side of the altar, is the terracotta sculpture of 1522, "The Transit of the Virgin", by Alfonso Lombardi. The work refers to an episode narrated in the apocryphal gospels, according to which during the funeral of the Madonna, the Jew Ananias attempted to desecrate her body. In the sculpture, Ananias shows his astonishment at the appearance of the angel who will soon cut off his hands.
