Palatine Chapel – 750 small enigmas

0
The Palatine Chapel is an amazing jewel, yet one of the most beautiful artistic representations contained within it cannot be seen, or rather, cannot be seen clearly enough. Look at the chapel's wooden ceiling. The Arabic carvings are magnificent and clear to the naked eye. What is not clear is what has been painted inside the niches. These are very small figures that can barely be seen from the floor. In reality, they are perfectly preserved miniatures representing feasts, banquets, dancers, musicians, jugglers, acrobats and chess players: moments of pleasure typical of Islamic iconography. There are as many as 750 images, the meaning of which has not yet been agreed upon. The most popular theory is that they are scenes from the Koranic paradise.
