Palazzo Massimo alle Terme – A sculpture owned by Hitler

0
At Palazzo Massimo alle Terme you can see the Discobolo, a copy from Roman Age of the original version by the Greek Mirone, discovered at Esquilino in 1871. It was preserved at Palazzo Lancellotti for long time as part of the family collection. During the years of the Second World War, Hitler bought the sculpture from Prince Lancellotti paying 5 millions of Italian Lira and he brought the artwork to Germany. It was given back to Rome reluctantly in 1948.
