Palazzo Trivulzio – “Going to rinse the clothes in Arno”

0
It is reported that Alessandro Manzoni used the expression "Going to rinse the clothes in Arno" but he didin't mean he was going to wash his clothing in Florence. He used these words when he had some language doubt and he went to his close friend, the marquise Marianna Trivulzio, asking for advise. During the first years of 1800 the marquise used to host a cultural gathering at her palace, Palazzo Trivulzio, located in Piazza Sant'Alessandro, where also Manzoni, author of "The Betrothed", used to go too.
