Palazzo Vecchio – The “Genie of Victory”

The Hall of the Five Hundred is a vast space on Palazzo Vecchio's first floor, built to accommodate the five hundred members of the People's General Council. Right in the middle of the sprawling surface of the wall facing the entrance looms Michelangelo's "Genius of Victory": likely sculpted between 1533 and 1534 for the tomb of Pope Julius II, it went unused and was later donated to Cosimo I de' Medici by the artist's nephew.
